Barbara Frietchie - July, 1979
"Confederate troops entering a town were ordered by General Stonewall Jackson to shoot down all American flags. Barbara rescued her flag flying from her upstairs window and shouted down this dare to the passing troops. "Shoot if you must this old gray head, but spare my country's flag; she said. Today's enemies - nuclear war, gas wars, an over eager military playing its games , an unprincipled media, and guilt - have replaced the Confederacy."
